Kenneth Hughes, owner and founder of Garden State Slider Co., was raised in Bergen County, New Jersey, where both great food and family tradition run deep. Both of his grandparents were professional chefs who taught culinary arts while traveling the world on the Queen Elizabeth II, and it was in their kitchens that Ken first developed his passion for cooking.

He began his career in North Jersey’s pizzerias, learning the business from the ground up at Caesar’s Pizza in Demarest, before continuing on at Pizza Express, Mahwah Pizza, and Prima Pizza in Parsippany. Those early years gave him a lifelong respect for the simple, honest food made from scratch.

In 2000, Ken moved to Colorado. where he spent years managing and bartending in some of Denver’s busiest bars before returning to his cutlery roots. He joined the Rolling Smoke BBQ crew, where he had the opportunity to cook for Neil Diamond and eventually cater private events for the legendary musician at his Colorado home over the last four years.

Today, Garden State Slider Co. reflects Ken’s full journey from the Jersey diners and pizza shops of his youth to the Rocky Mountain food scene he calls home. The truck has become a fixture at 9280 pond hockey, Dawg Nation Hockey Foundation, and Rocky Mountain Hockey Schools, as well as catering events for the Foothills Flyers, Krivo School of Hockey Elite, and Littleton Hawks.
